The Oldham Group was formed in 1973. In the summer of 1976 there were 9 local walks, 8 leaders and the total mileage covered was 65. The group now has around 650 members and, looking at a recent summer programme, there were over 90 walks, over 46 leaders, and the total mileage covered was 1150.

As one of the most active groups in the area, we offer throughout the year:

• Three walking groups on a Sunday - easy, moderate or strenuous.
• A occasional strenuous Saturday walk.
• A Wednesday walk with pub lunch, or longer day walk.
• Regular social activities.
• Occasional Coach Excursions and Hostel Weekends, for members.
• Liaison with local authorities on footpaths and on matters concerning walkers.
• Non members are very welcome on our walks. Just turn up and introduce yourself at the start point of the walk.
